The unavoidable emissions will be compensated for through the purchase of carbon credit units from Carbon Neutral’s reforestation project located in the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor, Western Australia.
Located the northern wheatbelt of Southwest Australia, approximately 400km north of Perth is the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor.
The region that extends across the shires of Perenjori, Morawa and Mingenew has a rich agricultural history. It also has a diverse number of animal and plant species that are endemic to the region, features ancient landscapes and has deep connection
with the Traditional Landowners.
In the first half of the 20th century, more than 90% of the native vegetation was cleared for wheat and sheep farming. Over time, with the removal of shrubs and larger trees the land has degraded; with soil erosion and increased salinity leaving much of the land no longer arable for agriculture. Isolated pockets of vegetation remain, but due to their disconnection many animal and plant species have been threatened. Carbon Neutral are revegetating the landscape with native trees and shrubs to reconnect the remnant vegetation and create habitats that encourage the return of plants and wildlife.
Satellite’s purchase of carbon credits through Carbon Neutral will contribute to the growth of the Corridor and help reconnect these valuable remnant vegetation sites with the existing nature reserves across a vast tract of land covering over 14,000 hectares.
This is Australia’s largest revegetation project based on carbon capture and biodiversity. By investing in this project, not only are we sequestering carbon, but we are also investing in biodiverse habitats for animals and providing support for our fellow humans in remote communities.
